Our Academics
Welcome to Turning Point Resource Center, where we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive academic environment for all students. At our center, we strive to meet the unique learning needs of each student and create a positive and engaging educational experience. Here's a brief introduction to the central principles, approaches, and values guiding our programs:

. Inclusive Education: Inclusion lies at the heart of our academic approach. We believe in the power of diversity and aim to create an environment where students of all abilities can learn and grow together. Our classrooms are designed to accommodate a range of learning styles and provide support tailored to each student's needs.
. Individualized Educational Plan: Every student at our school works with an individualized learning plan that addresses their specific strengths, challenges, and goals. These plans are created through standardized curriculums plus in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure that each student's academic needs are effectively met.
. Specialized Instruction: Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff has extensive experience working with students who have diverse learning needs. They employ modified teaching strategies, techniques, and assistive technologies to help students engage with the curriculum and reach their full potential.
. Small Class Sizes: To ensure personalized attention, we maintain small class sizes. This enables our teachers to provide targeted instruction, address individual concerns promptly, and build strong relationships with students.
. Multi-Sensory Approach: We recognize that students learn in different ways. Therefore, we incorporate a multi-sensory approach to instruction, utilizing visual aids, manipulatives, technology, and hands-on activities. This approach allows students to engage their senses and make meaningful connections with the material.
. Process Art: Art is an integral part of our activities at Turning Point, as we believe that it is the greatest form of non-verbal communication and helps express feelings, moods, and emotions. Process art is child-directed, choice-driven, and celebrates the joy of exploration. Children have the freedom to decide what they want to create, the materials and colors they want to use, and more.
. Social Skills Development: We believe that social competence contributes to confidence, happiness, and effective interpersonal relationships. Our program focuses on developing social skills, including communication, self-management, problem-solving, decision-making, and collaborative interaction. We assess each student's specific needs in these areas, which may include effective communication, self-respect, cooperation, and friendship-building.
. Support Services: Our school offers a range of support services to meet the diverse needs of our students, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, behaviour modification, physiotherapy, counseling, and life and social skills training. We collaborate closely with parents and external professionals to provide comprehensive support that extends beyond the classroom.
. Enrichment Opportunities: We believe in providing a well-rounded education. In addition to core academics, we offer enriching activities such as music, physical education, cross-fit, sports, pottery, cooking, and field trips. These opportunities foster creativity, socialization, and the development of additional skills.
. Collaboration and Communication: We emphasize open and regular communication between teachers, parents, and support staff. Collaboration and partnership are essential in creating a cohesive educational experience for our students. We value the input of all participants and encourage their active involvement in their child's academic journey.
At our center, we are dedicated to providing a safe learning environment in which children acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for successful integration into society. We aim to empower our students to become positive, contributing members of the community. By embracing the unique strengths and needs of each student, we create an environment where everyone can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
